Biography

Peach — Ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom

Princess Peach is one of the most famous characters in the whole gaming multiverse. In many Mario games, she is the reason why the main hero gets into so many troubles — evil Bowser can't stop his attempts to kidnap Peach, and Mario has to rescue the princess again and again.

The world met this girl for the first time in the game Super Mario Bros. in 1985. She did not join the adventure, though — the princess was waiting in a far-away castle while Mario (or Luigi) fought Koopas and Goombas. After being rescued, Peach returned to her everyday life, ruling the Mushroom Kingdom populated with Toads (that’s why one of Peach’s names is Princess Toadstool)

She takes a more active role in the next game, Super Mario Bros. 2 (1988) -— and it seems like Peach enjoys this power quite a lot, becoming a playable character in other core games of the series, such as Super Mario 3D World (2013). Once, she even got her own game, Super Princess Peach (2005), where she rescues Mario, Luigi, and Toad.

Peach doesn’t like sitting in her castle and doing nothing. She prefers active sports and fun with friends. That’s why you can meet her in many spin-off Mario games, such as:

  • Mario Kart
  • Mario Tennis
  • Mario Golf
  • Mario Party

And it turns out that Princess Peach knows how to fight and actually enjoys doing that. She probably has developed this useful skill while dealing with Bowser and his minions. Now, fighting is kind of her hobby, and Peach is a very decent member of the Smash Bros. roster.

Princess Peach in Super Smash Bros. series

When Nintendo released the first SSB game, Peach wasn’t there. Probably, she decided to wait and see what's going on with those fighting matches. It seems like she liked the idea, and the developers added Princess Peach to the second game of the series — Super Smash Bros. Melee. The princess has been present in each installment since then.

The appearance of Peach in Smash changes from being based on Super Mario 64 in Melee to Super Mario Sunshine in Brawl, and Super Mario 3D World in Smash 4 and Ultimate.

Peach in SSBU

For the first time in the series, Princess Peach becomes not a starter but an unlockable character.

To unlock Princess Peach in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate:

  • play VS Matches, she will be the 12th unlocked fighter;
  • finish Classic Mode with Fox or anyone he unlocks. Peach appears 3rd;
  • get her in the story — World of Light.

In the fights, Peach is rather light and has average ground speed. Her jumps are low, but the floating ability is exceptional — many players consider this the biggest strength of Princess Peach. She might have problems with quick opponents, swordfighters, and zoners. In general, Peach is a top-tier SSBU character.

Princess Daisy — Ruler of Sarasaland

She is a princess of the fairyland Sarasaland and a frequent participant in Mario games. Daisy is the cousin of Peach, and you can see them both driving karts in the Mario Kart series, playing tennis and golf with other Mario characters, and enjoying Mario Party games.

After quite a few unsuccessful attempts with Peach, Bowser tried to kidnap Princess Daisy, but the result was the same. In the game Mario Party 3, Daisy just slapped the King of the Koopas to the sky, proving that she can stand for herself. This quality is definitely valuable for Super Smash Bros.

The appearance of Daisy changes in different installments of the Marios series. Thanks to the technology development, she’s made a journey from being a pixel copy of Peach to becoming a unique character, a well-recognizable princess. Her story is scattered throughout many games, so it’s hard to make a coherent bio from the known facts. There are rumors that Luigi is very interested in Daisy, and he even rescues her in the live-action film from 1993. Some sources say that Waluigi likes Daisy too, but the princess actively avoids this attention.

In her first game, Super Mario Land (1989), Princess Daisy was a non-playable character kidnapped by the alien creature Tatanga. This villain was more interested in getting Sarasaland under his control than in having a happy marriage. The next appearance of Daisy in gaming was in the game NES Open Tournament Golf (1991) as a caddie of Luigi.

Gamers got a chance to actually play Daisy in Mario Tennis (2000), as the developers wanted to bring more human characters into the game. Then, she gets her playable role in many spin-offs. You can find her in the core series as well — in the mobile game Super Mario Run.

Princess Daisy has been present in all SSB games starting from Super Smash Bros. Melee — but first, she was added only as a trophy. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Daisy becomes a real fighter for the first time

She is an echo character of Peach, so Daisy has the same moveset and attributes.

To unlock Princess Daisy in SSBU:

  • Daisy is the 28th unlocked fighter in the VS Matches;
  • Daisy is 5th to unlock if you finish Classic Mode with Fox or anyone from his unlock tree;
  • get her in the World of Light.
