Fox McCloud, one of the best-known characters of the Super Smash Brothers that has been part of each and every entry of the franchise. Fox McCloud grew up with only his father, James, to take care of him. Eventually, Andross expanded his influence across the Lylat systems, forcing James to lead the Star Fox alongside Peppy Hare and many other renowned pilots. Sadly, one such pilot was a double agent and betrayed the Star Fox team, killing James. Peppy informed Fox of his father's passing as the only survivor, which inspired the young man to follow his path and become an Arwing pilot for the Cornerian Army. As part of the new Star Fox team, Fox would be joined by Falco Lombardi, Slippy Toad, and Peppy Hare. The team would then go on missions to find the location of Andross and confront him.
Beyond the Star Fox series, Fox and Falco are undeniable staples of the Super Smash Bros series. With Fox being one of the original four characters that series creator Masahiro Sakurai put forth as a proof of concept for the game. Fox's quick gameplay lends itself to twitch movements with precise timings and great versatility at a wide range of distances. Something that has remained more or less consistent across all his appearances in Smash.
In the world of competitive Super Smash Bros, he sees a lot of play in Super Smash Bros Melee as players perfect his playstyle for literal decades. Meanwhile, in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, he is considered good but not great. In general, believed to be a very explosive character with great utility but vulnerable to opponents who adapt to a particular Fox's playstyle. Nevertheless, brand recognition carries him when it comes to pro players picking up the character and making it not just work but shine.
