DBFZ at BAM 2023: It’s Not Over Until It’s Over
A tournament with valuable lessons and many exciting moments

This is actually only the second relatively big fighting esports event where Dragon Ball FighterZ players compete within the newest build. This certainly means a bit of chaos — in general results and the team composition.

Around a week ago, we saw how American players handle the adaptation to the refreshed power balance. Obviously, Battle Arena Melbourne 2023 is a place for Australian competitors to shine.

In some of our previous posts, we bravely proclaimed Novix the best DBFZ player in Australia — and it was true for that moment, but the situation has changed. This time, the guy lost to Suto in the pools and then was eliminated from the tournament by Ben — without reaching the Top 8 part. I mention this specifically to highlight how the scene has grown and changed over this period. And to reflect how alive and highly-competitive Australian fighting esports is.

In the Winners Semi-Finals, Nolbie and CugeltheClever1 (also known as Esto) got clean 2:0 victories over Suto and Agent17805 to proceed to their tough three-match fight.

First, CugeltheClever1 was substantially stronger — he won the Winners Final with an impressive 3:0 score.

But Nolbie sure knows that it’s not over until it’s over. He defeated Agent17805 in the Elimination Final and proceeded to the Grand Final too.

And talking about “it’s not over…” The skills and emotions of Kasai were certainly one of the gems of this tournament. First, he demonstrated wonderful moments, such as an amazing happy birthday to get a significant advantage. And then, he got so excited about a potential perfect round that he stopped playing without really killing the opponent. He won, though — just take a look at the Top Moments sections below in this post. Those emotions make fighting esports the miracle it is.

The First Grand FInal match was an opposition to the Winners Final. Nolbie was dominant and reset the bracket with a clean 3:0.

The Grand Final Reset was much tougher. Only in the very last game, Nolbie proved that fighting till the very end is a very good idea, and actually, it’s essential to be successful in fighting esports matches.

Nolbie is the DBFZ Champion of Battle Arena Melbourne 2023. Congratulations!

This balance update has turned the Dragon Ball FighterZ tournament at Combo Breaker 2023 just historical. It was the last one for the previous version of the game.
