Although unknown at the time, the actions of future Trunks to save Goku in the past created the conditions for Zamasu, a Supreme Kai from universe 10, to act on his ideals of killing all mortals in the universe and beyond. In his mind, the mortal were weak and a mistake on the part of the Kai, who was too prideful to admit it and kill them all. Though in reality, Zamasu hid a much darker desire to enact pain on mortals and god himself. When he had the Dragon Balls under his control, and after killing the Supreme Kai of his universe, he wished to swap bodies with Goku from Universe 6. He could've had wished for the death of all mortal, but instead, he saw it as his duty to execute them all himself.
Even with his new power, he knew the Gods of Destruction were still too powerful for him to take on, so he needed to find a universe without them. As it would turn out, future Trunk's universe had no God of Destruction due to Trunk's time travel. This opened the door for Zamasu, now carrying the name of Goku Black or just Black, to come in and get rid of all gods first, then meet his future self from that universe and begin wiping out the universe.
After reaching Earth, Black began to wipe the planet clean. He had developed an especially poignant disdain for human life and believed it was his sole duty to destroy it. Trunks and other humans would attempt to defend Earth, but they would all be bested, leading to Trunks escaping by the skin of his teeth to the past to ask Goku, Vegeta, and the others for help. Close behind was Black, who managed to go into the past to face the two Saiyans in a fight. But it all be cut short due to Black's time ring forcing him back to the future timeline. Short after, preparations would begin to go back to the future and face Goku Black.
Surprisingly, compared to its non-Super-Saiyan counterpart, SS Goku is one of the most beginner-friendly characters in the game's roster. He is powerful but not enough to shine in one single aspect truly. At most, his damage output and space control can be seen as the key feature he brings to a match while also sitting at the lower end of mix-up potential—a great first pick for people that want to learn the underlying mechanics of the game.
