Biography

Bayonetta is the titular character of the franchise of the same name. She’s a witch from the clan of Umbra Witches – ancient practitioners of magic from Europe. Once mighty and old as time itself, it was reduced to merely two members – Bayonetta, and her best friend and rival Jeanne.

Before the events of the first game, Bayonetta was sealed away for half a millennia. After awakening from her slumber, she stumbled around for twenty years, suffering from amnesia. When she finally came to, she was thrust into action to battle the angelic hordes of Paradiso and to thwart the machinations of the last Lumen Sage, who’s somehow connected to Bayonetta’s fate.

During the second game, she has to travel into the depths of Inferno, where the soul of her best friend Jeanne was taken. This time she has to fight not only angels but also demons while uncovering the ancient conspiration.

Bayonetta’s personality is deceptively playful and nonchalant, suiting her femme fatale status. She never loses her cool and is able to maintain her composure even when pressed into a corner. In addition to this, Bayonetta is very fond of banter and often uses sexual innuendos and double entendres when talking to her friends and foes alike. However, deep down, she is a genuinely caring person: a trait that she demonstrates in both games.

One of the most noticeable traits of Bayonetta is her appearance: she is considered by many, both in-universe and by the players, to be extremely attractive, feminine, and sexy. She is aware of the effect her looks have on people and uses this as a weapon in her arsenal.

But she also has more powerful tools at her disposal: her whole outfit is made out of her own hair, which she uses in battles with deadly efficiency. More common means of waging war on the angelic hordes include her four iconic pistols created by the demon-blacksmith Rodin. Named Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme, they are colloquially known as Scarborough Fair.

In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bayonetta is a strong combo character. Her relatively low damage output is offset by the easiness of staring or following up combos that rack up damage quickly. She’s not an easy character to master, as her combo game is difficult to execute, and her playstyle overall is very high risk, high reward.
