Biography

Byleth was born to Jeralt Eisner and Sitri in the year 1159 on the continent of Fódlan. Their mother died shortly after giving birth and was buried at Garreg Mach Monastery, the same place her child would become a teacher at years later. Jeralt left the prestigious position at the Knights of Seiros and formed a mercenary unit. Being a battle-hardened warrior, he trained Byleth in combat until they were good enough to join his crew.

During one of the skirmishes, three students from the Garreg Mach Monastery, Dimitri, Edelgarde, and Claude, ask for assistance to fight off the bandits who are after them. This battle served as a catalyst for the awakening of Byleth's powers.

Archbishop Rhea, the headmaster of the Garreg Mach Monastery and the leader of the Church of Seiros, invited Byleth to work as a professor of the Officers Academy and lead one of the three titular houses: Edelgard’s Black Eagles, Dimitri’s Blue Lions, or Claude’s Golden Deer.

Byleth’s personality is very stoic and subdued. Nothing can seemingly shock them or incite any strong emotional response. However, the students that come to know them closely and become their friend tend to learn to read Byleth’s mood and emotions even when they’re not explicitly conveyed.

Their upbringing among the ranks of a mercenary company made Byleth a fearless fighter and a skilled warrior. Their leadership qualities are tested several times during their tenure as a Garreg Mach professor, the display of which made them equally respected both among students and the governing body of the institution.

The time spent with one of the houses of their choice made Byleth close friends with their students, to a point where they will gladly put their lives on the line for each other. Alongside this, the formerly solemn professor learned to express their emotions and be more open to those around them.

Masahiro Sakurai, a known Fire Emblem fan, would betray himself if he didn’t put a character from the then-new Three Houses title inside Smash Ultimate. In-game, Byleth is characterized by high damage output and disjointed hitboxes, which make them a lethal threat when approached competently. However, the major downsides include subpar mobility and high startup and end lag on the moves that can leave them exposed and punished if not executed at the right time. Their approach requires full commitment and knowledge of the matchups.

Byleth can be a character of choice for those who like powerful ranged game and are not afraid to bide their time with a patient approach to the fights.
