Biography

Half a millennia before the events of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2, a calamitous event named Aegis War took place. One man’s foolish desire to ascend the World Tree, reach Elysium, and find the godlike being known as Architect wrought upon the world unimaginable destruction. Even the Titans, giant lifeforms that serve as the landmasses in this world, were not spared. His name was Amalthus, and instead of Architect, he found two Aegis Cores.

Upon descending from the heavens, he activated one of the cores, Malos, and formed a bond with him. However, this was a mistake: soon thereafter, Malos, in his infinite rage, begins his assault upon the world. Amalthus, no longer able to awaken the second Core, delegates this task to the prince of the Kingdom of TornaAddam. The awakened creature happened to be Mythra, and they also formed a bond. Together they tried stopping Malos. Their multiple clashes went down in history as the Aegis War.

During the final stand against Malos, Mythra was goaded into using her full power and break her bond with Addam. She manages to wound her adversary, but the collateral damage was indescribable: the entire Kingdom of Torna was wiped from the face of the earth, with friends and enemies slain alike. Witnessing this desolation wrought by her abilities caused her mind, in a moment of great grief, to spontaneously form an alternate personality named Pyra. Upon her request, Addam sealed her within the sinking ship so that no one else is ever hurt by her.

Five hundred years later, the shipwreck is discovered by the salvagers, among whom was the main character of Xenoblade Chronicles 2Rex. There, they discover the body of Pyra, and rex accidentally touches it, awakening her. Subsequently, one of the fellow salvagers mortally stabs him, but he is able to form a bond with Pyra and is brought back to life, fusing their life forces together. From this moment onwards, their lives are intertwined.

Pyra and Mythra, while being a single entity, differ both in personality and physical attributes. Pyra is extremely kind and caring, while Mythra is more cold and brash. In battle, Pyra relies on powerful attacks and Fire elements, while Mythra is all about speed, and her element is Light.

This element is preserved in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and competent players will have to use their ability to transform to bring the best out of this character. However, of the two, Mythra is often viewed as superior by the community.
