Heishiro Mitsurugi is a character from the Soul series. In the 6th installment of Soulcalibur, which reboots the timeline, we meet Mitsurugi, a man who has no family to speak of and instead spends his time moving around trying to become a stronger fighter. Mitsurugi’s reliance on strength leads him to seek the harshest challenges to partake in and grow stronger.
He faces a crisis of faith when he discovers that his fighting skills and weapon are no match for the Tanegashima weapons (rifles), which possess both range and power. Determined not to give up, Mitsurugi set off to look for an even more powerful weapon. It was at this time that he heard of the legendary ‘Soul Edge’ sword, which was said to be the most powerful weapon. In the hands of a new owner, Mitsurugi retained hope that he could get his hands on the weapons and set off to get the sword. During his journey, he got to meet Edge Master, a mysterious old man who is said to know about Nightmare and the Soul Edge sword. Mitsurugi meets the Old man and is tricked into a confrontation with Taki. He wins but soon finds that the old man is gone, and he has been tricked and is no closer to getting Soul Edge.
While disappointed, Mitsurugi is not deterred and instead focused on becoming stronger, and he took the old man’s last words about improving in the military arts. He became stronger and continued on his quest to face off against the very best. In the process of his journey, he met Geralt, whom he fought against but was unable to claim victory instead of settling for a stalemate. Since then, he has regarded Geralt as his everlasting rival and has promised to fight the Witcher again.
Mitsurugi values strength above all else and spends all his time looking for the strong. However, this does not make him a bad person, as he is most likely driven to be stronger by the loss of his family. Apart from his great strength, Mitsurugi doesn’t have much else going for him and is hardly the smartest tool in the shed. This is highlighted when he was led by the nose by Edge Master while he searched for Soul Edge. His combat skills are quite impressive, though, and his ability to use his experiences and instinct in a fight is remarkable.
Mitsurugi is also really proud of both his strength and heritage, and this does not always work in his best interest.
Mitsurugi is a powerful character equipped with a range of hard-hitting attacks, which make him a formidable foe. Once he has an opponent cornered, he is difficult to stop, and even when you try to sidestep, he has tools to counter the opponent. He has a good low attack that catches the adversary if they are blocking high, and once conditioned to block low; he can unleash his overhead which will catch the enemy and deal damage. That said, Mitsurugi does struggle from range, and if a foe can successfully zone him out, they have the advantage.
To counter this, Mitsurugi has a couple of advancing moves that help him close the gap, but they can be handled by a wily foe. But if used carefully and wisely, you can close the gap and defeat the opponent.
Mitsurugi is a physical specimen with a muscular body which is necessary for his line of work. He also has long-ish black hair and dark eyes. His wardrobe consists of a breastplate, shoulder armor, one of which has a dragon design. He also has on large pants tucked into shin guards, which are red in color. He also has on a pair of waraji (samurai straw sandals) and holds his pants in place with a purple rope that acts as a belt.
