Capcom Cup VIII Canceled. How Does the Community React?

It’s a sad decision as we have no Capcom Cup for the second year in a row

This year started with somewhat shocking events for the Street Fighter community. First, Justin Wong repeats that Evo Moment 37 — did you expect to see that? And then… Ok, the second event is really serious — Capcom cancels the Capcom Cup VIII.

There is not much to say here. The event was planned for February. And even more, as that was going to be a week-long celebration of Street Fighter that included the Last Chance Qualifier for the Cup, Street Fighter League: World Championship, and the Capcom Cup VIII itself. Well… none of that is gonna happen.

Here is the official announcement:

It’s not an easy decision, and significant bravery is needed to take it. Actually, that bravery is needed for both canceling and not. We at DashFight feel sad to hear the news, but we support Capcom here (as we would support the company in the opposite situation). It’s better to assume they know what is the best for Street Fighter at this point.

Still, you are probably more interested in the reaction of the CPT winners and prominent personalities of the FGC community. Here are some tweets that reflect how people accepted the announcement.

Reaction of some participants:

RobTV, who won two CPT in his region, is pretty sad:

Punk is going to play more Dragon Ball FighterZ:

MenaRD looks to the future:

AngryBird makes a good point in his reaction:

Brian_F, Nephew, The4Philzz, and Infexious are rather laconic:

What do commentators/analysts say?

Ok, sharing every reaction is rather impossible, and hopefully, these tweets convey the general mood.

And one more thing — to bring something fun to this post. What about that Evo Moment 37 reincarnation? It’s a gem, so please, enjoy!

2022 will be a great year for the fighting games community nevertheless. We hope to see you on our Facebook and Twitter to discuss games, events, and other awesome stuff.

Meanwhile, why not remember the best stuff happening in the Street Fighter world in 2021?
