The much anticipated Street Fighter live-action movie has finally found a director in The Eric Andre Show director and producer, Kitao Sakurai.
Sakurai himself confirmed the news on his Instagram stating that he is honored to bring to life the legendary fighting game. Sakurai is known for several works including Aardvark and Coda.
Street Fighter's movie will be brought to life with Capcom deeply involved along with Legendary and it is believed that it will be released in 2026.
Whether that will still be possible considering a director has only just been found is unknown, but at least the project can get going.
Street Fighter has had two live-action movies with a 1994 movie that stars Van Damme and Ming Na Wen. The movie wasn't very good, but made a profit at the box office with $99m made in total on its $35m budget. The movie has come to become loved and has something of a cult status. Not so for the follow-up, a 2009 called Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li which starred Kristin Kreuk and Chris Kline and was generally panned by all who came across it.
