The Mortal Kombat 1 Competitive Community is Struggling Online
The Mortal Kombat 1 competitive scene is facing a number of challenges, players, commentators, and organizers raise concerns about its current heading

Since the release of Mortal Kombat 1, there has been rising tension within the community about its online functionality. Feed by the lack of lobbies and crossplay, the disconent seems to be reaching a boiling point in 2024. The community still lacks those core features even as the game snatched a surprising best multiplayer game award at the Golden Joysticks. Although NetherRealm continues to reassure players, those are coming.

Today, it seems like the dam spilled over, and fueled by these issues and the lackluster online scene post covid, players, commentators, and organizers are discussing what is happening on the scene and, more importantly, what to do about it.

Well-known top player and Evo champion Dragon made a thread over on X(Twitter), detailing his experiences with the online scene and its shortfalls.

Others then chipped in with their thoughts, including two of the most well-known online tournament organizers, MrAquaman of Kollesum fame and Destroyer.
