DBFZ Power Event Japan: Final Fight

Perhaps, every fighting esports title looks slightly different on the Japanese scene. Not only is this country the birthplace of the genre, but also, the community here manages to develop a specific style — and it’s always interesting to watch big tournaments from Japan.

On December 18, we could witness very special fights. It was DBFZ Power Event Japan, the last tourney of such level in the World Tour 2022/2023. 

The competition here is pretty significant. Only two players from the region get direct tickets to the upcoming Final event. One of them is certainly Fenritti, as he took care of his standing position thanks to travels to other countries (CouchWarriors Crossup 2022 in Australia was the most recent).

Considering the general standing, the most motivated participants were tako956402 and Oblivion. They fought for 2nd place in the league.

tako956402 got a significant boost thanks to his recent victory at BeePro Cup 2022. He occupied the second position in the league standings and had just not let Oblivion go too far.

First, this task looked pretty difficult. Oblivion entered the Top 8 part through the Winners brackets, while tako956402 was in the Losers. But then…

Oblivion pretty confidently defeated EYESHIELD21 and ikoan to proceed to the Grand Final. But tako956402 did the same with four opponents, reached the Grand Final, and thus remained 2nd in the World Tour standings.

Still, the fight in the Grand Final was tough and uncompromising.

After many back-and-forth moments, Oblivion won 3:2. The difference between two players in the general standings becomes only 15 points, so community events can change the situation.
