Biography

Ginyu started out as a normal kid with his purple-horned body. Soon, he realized that he could swap bodies with other people (his most signature move). He activates it and switches bodies with the wealthiest boy in his class in a bid to get the attention of the ladies. It works, but it was more of a ‘careful what you wish for’ situation as Ginyu soon realized that even with the attention, his lack of knowledge made him a total idiot. At this point, he decided that he would rather have strength than riches.

Soon after, he joined the forces of Frieza and is instrumental in capturing the Dragon Balls for Frieza. He is left to guard the balls while Frieza is out to seek a way to activate them, and it is here he has his fated battle with Goku. He fights against the Saiyan and soon discovers that Goku can mask his true power. As the fight progresses, Ginyu is forced to use his body swap technique to defeat Goku. He successfully swaps bodies with Goku, but, again, it doesn’t go according to plan as he cannot make full use of Goku’s body and is soundly beaten by Krillin and Gohan

However, the tide of battle turns, and Ginyu starts to have the upper hand, and he starts to beat on his assailants. Then, just as it seemed that Ginyu would have complete victory, Vegeta arrives on the scene and proceeds to wipe the floor with Ginyu. In an attempt to body swap with Vegeta, he is intercepted by Goku, who throws a Namekian frog at Ginyu. So, Ginyu becomes stuck in the body of a frog.

Ginyu is a part of the fearsome ‘Ginyu Force’ along with Recoome, Guldo, Burter, and Jeice. Together, they make silly poses before battle, but they are a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield.

Captain Ginyu in Dragon Ball FighterZ

According to his story mode in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Captain Ginyu is among the villains revived by Android 21. Once restored, he makes his way back to the forces of Frieza and is once again his trusted lieutenant.

Playstyle

Captain Ginyu is a very unpredictable character, and this is both an advantage and a disadvantage. On the one hand, with the help of the Ginyu Force, he can make hell for the opponent and keep them pinned down and unable to attack. On the other hand, his creativity depends largely on the Ginyu Force and can be shut down by characters with great defensive tools. On his own, Ginyu is a pretty basic fighter, but his damage output is considerable, and when used wisely, his Ginyu Force can obliterate anyone in his path.
