Biography

Story

Devil Jin is a result of the Devil Gene taking over Jin's body and mind. He inherited it from his father, Kazuya Mishima, but his mother, Jun Kazama, warded off the Devil, who was going after Jin for the longest time. When Ogre presumedly killed her, Devil took this opportunity and possessed Jin, branding him with Devil's mark. The Devil awakened during the third King of Iron Fist tournament when Heihachi shot his grandson in the head. After healing the injury, Devil Jin defeated Heihachi and Tekken Force soldiers before flying off.

Sometime later, Jin regains control and competes in the fourth King of Iron Fist tournament. Heihachi uses this opportunity to capture Jin while his father Kazuya, overtaken by his own Devil Gene, attempts to awaken and extract the second half of the Devil out of Jin. Before this can happen, Jin awakens, and with the help of Devil Gene's powers, breaks free of restraints. He defeats Kazuya and Heihachi in battles that follow and begins his total transformation into Devil Jin before his mother's spirit helps him regain some sense. Once away, Jin flies away.

While Devil Gene proceeds to take more control over his body, Jin seeks to rid himself of this curse. His search leads him to Azazel, an ancient immortal demon with immense power who could be the source of Devil Gene. After defeating the monster, Jin passes out, and his devil mark fades away. While unconscious, the UN soldiers apprehend Jin and attempt to transport him, but Jin awakens mid-flight and destroys the helicopter using devil powers. He wanders the desert until passing away and being captured once more, this time by Lars, who delivers him to Lee's lab. After the final fight between Heihachi and Kazuya, Jin awakens and decides that his battle isn't over until he kills his father, Kazuya.

Personality

Devil Jin is a cruel demon with no regard for human life, enjoying the destruction and pain he causes. Other living things are nothing but prey to him. When encountering opponents, he establishes his superiority before fighting them and laughs at their demise when victorious. However, when coming across people precious to Jin, Devil Gene's control can at times crumble, causing him pain and allowing him to form temporary alliances.

Appearance

Devil Jin is depicted as Jin but with paler skin, prominent horns, black angel wings, devil tattoos over his chest and face, and a red stone on his forehead. In Tekken 7, he received a redesign that changed his clothing to a torn-up straight jacket with a chain hanging off of his neck.

Playstyle

Devil Jin is a highly well-rounded character which allows him to adjust to any situation freely and offers players an opportunity to play to their own strengths. His mix-ups are overall less threatening than his father's, and Devil Jin's collection of mids lacks truly intimidating options, but his kit more than makes up for it. With Devil Jin's great movement, Mishima style wavedash, and strong ranged moves, he does a great job of controlling the space and keeping opponents where he wants them. When approaching with wavedash, good Devil Jin players can also compensate his weakness to sidesteps by realigning with wavedashes and then executing their chosen follow-up. While wavedashing can lose to keep out, Devil Jin has powerful poking and keep out tools to make opponents respect him. Overall, Devil Jin is an excellent choice for players who want a well-rounded character, however, utilizing Devil Jin to his full potential will require a lot of dedication and high execution.
