The UYU team defied all expectations to take 1st place in Street Fighter League
Team UYU are Street Fighter League USA Champions!
This is astonishing, considering how badly they had done in previous seasons. The team, which was made up of NL, Oil King, Xian, and DCQ defied all expectations to defeat CLG, who had also posted an impressive win to make it to grand final, and win the tournament.
Two seasons ago, UYU, with Oil King as captain, did not win a single game. Last season, they also did not fare very well. This season, one of their stalwarts, Kami, turned out for Panda instead, so it seemed like UYU was in dire straits. But, they showed their mettle, posting W after W to finally get themselves into the playoffs. Once there, they still had the small matter of defeating Team Endemic with iDom. They managed this with NL playing the game of his life, to defeat iDom and grant his team a place in the grand finals.
The format for the grand finals was similar to that of Street Fighter League EU where the top 4 teams played against each other in a regular team battle with the winners advancing to the grand final where the winner was decided by a first-to-two sets.
UYU defeated Endemic, and CLG, who were also incredibly impressive, defeated defending champions, and tournament favorites, NASR Bandits.
With this win, UYU will now be the USA representative at the Street Fighter League World Championships taking place in about a week. They join Good8Squad and Mouz in the tournament.
UYU enjoyed a deluge of congratulatory messages on their incredible win with DCQ in particular earning high praise. NL was also a monster considering he had a forgettable first half to the season, but he came through for his team when necessary.
Congratulations to UYU and we look forward to seeing them in the world finals.
