Street Fighter League Japan Day 6 Recap

DetonatioN FocusMe are at the bottom, can they find their first win?

Street Fighter League Japan day 6 returned with all the great action we love and brought us closer to the 2nd half. Some of the teams in action today were in dire straits especially DetonatioN FocusMe who have only garnered 10 points so far in the event which sees them dead last. The fixtures for the day were as follows:

  • Cyclops Athletes Gaming vs Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto
  • Team DetonatioN FocusMe vs Good 8 Squad
  • Shinobism Gaming vs Gyogun

Cyclops Athletes Gaming vs Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto

VS

The first match of the day was between high-flying Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto against third place Cyclops Athlete Gaming. The two teams are well stocked and this was a high-level match.

The first set featured Nemo against Go1 with Nemo getting the better of his colleague in a hard fought set. The next set was between Higuchi and Kazunoko. This was a classic Guile vs Cammy match and the two players were evenly matched. However, it would be Higuchi who took the victory, 2-1. The put Fenritti in the unenviable position of having to bring it all back for his team. He was also up against Shuto who has been his team's talisman with the Marisa.

The first game showed that Fenritti was up for it and he won. The second game saw Shuto respond in kind and level the scores. But, Fenritti was too strong and took the set 3-1.

This brought the scores level and in need of a tiebreaker. Saishunkan Sol decided to send out Sasamo to take the first to one. Sasamo's Dee Jay is impressive, but he failed to win his last set. Here against a confident Fenritti, things didn't look great, but he bravely took the challenge and even won the first round. But, Fenritti had his number and went on a tear, winning two rounds straight, to take the match for his team.

This puts Cyclops on 105, they are still 15 points behind Saishunkan Sol, but it's a step closer to safety.

Team DetonatioN FocusMe vs Good 8 Squad

VS

Team DetonatioN FocusMe had the unenviable task of dealing with Good 8 Squad who are in and around the top spots, but haven't had any real convincing matches. Even the addition of Fuudo hasn't worked out as hoped and they are rock bottom, which means the only way is up.

Fuudo went first against Tachikawa who said that he wasn't confident against the former Evo winner, but all that seemed like a lie when the game panned out and we saw Tachikawa defeat Fuudo's Dee Jay with some ease.

Next was Nauman against Gachikun. Gachikun has his Rashid again, but seems to be having trouble with Kens and he was on the losing end again as Nauman got another 10 points for his team.

Considering their spot of trouble, it made sense that captain of the team, Itabashi Zangief, was sent forward to win something for his team. On the other hand, Pugera was the one sent forward which was interesting considering Pugera had no points coming into this. He rewarded his team with a commanding performance winning 3-0 against Itazan.

This leaves DetonatioN FocusMe at the bottom while Good 8 Squad solidifies their spot at the top end of the table.

Shinobism Gaming vs Gyogun

VS

The first set featured Mizuha against Johnny. Johnny decided to go with Manon which is interesting considering how rare it is to see Manon nowadays. Unfortunately, he didn't really do anything to elevate Manon's diminishing reputation, losing 2-0 to Mizuha's Cammy.

The second set had Mago also going with a character change, switching to Cammy from Juri hoping for a better time of it against Fujimura's Ken. It was no dice for Mago as he lost again leveling the match.

Yamaguchi was the next to step forward with Momochi sitting it out for the day. He was up against Moke who was well known for his Rashid, but has taken a liking to Chun li in Street Fighter 6. It was a good call as he completely destroyed Yamaguchi, 3-0, to win the match for his team and keep them holding on to the safe zone on the table.

The next match day will be on the 25th August 2023.
