It’s an amazing feeling to see a fighting game getting released and the esports community starting to compete in it. Individual ideas on what is possible in this title become broken by those dedicated guys. Mind-blowing combos emerge on the scene alongside unexpectedly powerful techs. And then, the esports dimension evolves even further, keeping game fans absolutely amazed by those miracles.
Right now, we are at the beginning of this journey for Mortal Kombat 1. The first esports tournaments are kind of the initial steps of brave explorers. They will lead to the excitement of many other events, like Combo Breaker, Evo, or the (potential) official Mortal Kombat league. But these steps are super interesting on their own. Who will adapt to the re-imagined mechanics first? Who will dominate these early stages?
The game was officially released for everyone on September 19. And on this very evening, some esports professionals gathered for a competitive event, MK1 Launch Event.
