Jin had a turbulent fate even before his birthday. He is the son of Jun Kazama, the essence of purity and peace, and Kazuya Mishima, the holder of the Devil Gene, whose desire for power and world dominance at any cost is unrivaled. These two sides keep clashing throughout Jin’s life.
He was brought by Jun. From her, he learned Kazama-style martial arts, but on his fifteenth birthday, Ogre attacked both him and his mother. When Jin awoke, he found his house destroyed and his mother disappearing. Jin went to Mishima dojo, where his grandfather, Heihachi, taught Jin martial arts as well as the world’s unfairness.
After four years of training in Mishima dojo, Jin entered the third King of Iron Fist Tournament, where he defeated Ogre. However, immediately after it, Jin was betrayed by Heihachi, who shot the final bullet in the head. However, the Devil Gene awoke and helped Jin to survive.
After that betrayal, Jin decided himself to eliminate the whole Mishima bloodline. He could finish Heihachi off in the fourth King of Iron Fist Tournament, but the vision of his mother stopped him. After leaving, the explosion happened, which led to the awakening of Jinpachi, Jin’s great-grandfather. His awakening disrupted the ability to control the Devil Gene, and his devil form brought lots of destruction.
After Jin managed to defeat Jinpachi, he took over the Mishima Zaibatsu and declared it an independent superpower, and a global war emerged. Jin’s plan was to use all this negative energy to summon Azazel, the ancient demon. Jin believed that after Azazel was summoned and defeated, Jin’s Devil Gene curse would cease to exist as well. However, that plan failed: Azazel was defeated, but the Devil Gene did not disappear.
In the end, it seems like only Jin himself can right his wrongdoings and finish both his story and the Mishima bloodline.
It is hard to describe Jin’s personality as there are too many ingredients to his character that create an explosive cocktail. His mother is pure and peaceful, his father seems to be pure evil, and Jin’s life is full of tragic events. He suppressed the Devil Gene, but also succumbed to it. His whole life is a struggle and we still don’t know which side of him will be victorious. In such a grand scheme of things, it is obvious that everything else is left behind, even the feelings of close friends and rivals.
While Jin might be lacking in attack damage, his versatility and agility compensate that really well. He can strongly punish his opponents while having lots of evasive maneuvers. Some of his movesets are similar to Devil Jin, so there are plenty of opportunities to find a key to any opponent. That leads, however, to one great downside: Jin is not the character for the beginners.
Jin has a black hair with spikes, somewhat resembling of his father Kazuya Mishima. His left shoulder has a tattoo - the mark of the Devil Gene. Jin loves flame patterns on clothes, and usually fights in comfortable pants together with fighting gloves. In Tekken 8 he also wears a black-and-white leather jacket together with black jeans.
