Warner Bros Games to Focus More on Mobile and Free-To-Play Games
The company's new direction could affect the fighting games around it

Warner Bros Discovery's gaming division will be taking a new direction in the future according to CEO J.B. Perrette. While at a speaking event, the CEO stated that WB Games will lean more on free-to-play, mobile, live service games which they believe to be more profitable.

Currently, WB Games focuses mostly on AAA games and found massive success with Hogwarts Legacy. However, with some recent bombs, including Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, the decision is being made to step away from the more volatile AAA market to a more consistent area like live service games.

According to Perrette, "Rather than just launching a one-and-done console game, how do we develop a game around, for example, a Hogwarts Legacy or Harry Potter, that is a live-service where people can live and work and build and play in that world in an ongoing basis?"

WB Games are the publishers of Mortal Kombat 1 and there is a feeling among fans that this could be a problem for the fighting game. Mortal Kombat 1 has been a success, but is in a difficult place as fans have complained about some undesirable features including some of the monetization decisions. Influencers such as Maximilian Dood have had their saying stating that they really hope for the best for MK1.

Max is of the opinion that this decision by WB Games might explain some of the issues with Mortal Kombat as he stated that executive big wigs have a major say in how a lot of games are being made.
