A deeper look at the upcoming content for MK1
The latest Mortal Kombat Kombat Kast featuring NetherRealm Studios' Tyler Lansdown, Derek Kirtzic, and Stephanie Brownback discussed the addition of T-1000, Madam Bo, and upcoming balance changes for Season 3.
T-1000 is described as a versatile “Swiss Army Knife” character who can fight at any range with a mix of projectiles, mobility tools, and combo setups. His moves include:
- Overhead Attack (B2): Can be charged for a larger pop-up.
- Low Starter (B3,2): Can be combined with overhead options.
- Throws: Feature liquid metal effects, passing through the opponent.
- His animations and effects, such as liquid metal damage recovery, accurately reflect his Terminator 2 origins.
Balance Updates & New Mechanics
The developers then detailed gameplay adjustments and new mechanics for various fighters:
- Baraka & Mileena: Both receive unique mechanics replacing their Fatal Blow.
- Baraka's activates under 30% health, allowing him to chain special moves but gradually losing health.
- Mileena's enables fast cancels and extended combos but stuns her afterward.
- Kenshi's Tweaks to hit reactions in Balance Stance make it easier to transition into Sento Stance. A new move allows him to leave Sento stance more efficiently.
- Reiko’s “Charging Pain” receives quality-of-life improvements, including canceling the running portion for better mix-ups.
- Tremor can now turn into a rock, usable as a jump-off point or throwable object.
- General Shao can extend his weapon-based mix-ups by keeping his axe on the ground longer.
- Striker gets a rapid-fire move added to his Cameo abilities.
- Sub-Zero's new move, “Polar Palm”, freezes opponents mid-combo, enhancing his combo potential.
- Tanya's “Seeking Guidance” buff is now a hit-confirm tool, allowing her to combo from the charge.
