Famed Mortal Kombat champion SonicFox has shared their initial impressions on Mortal Kombat 1's character balance after two months with the game. In a new tier list video, SonicFox broke down each fighter into tiers based on their strength in the current meta.
At the top, SonicFox originally placed Kenshi, Johnny Cage, and Raiden as S+ tier before later moving their apparent new main Sindel up to number two, declaring her "totally busted right now." In total, nine fighters made up the tippy top S+ category which SonicFox claimed have the most overpowered tools.
The brand new DLC character Omni-Man was rated highly in S tier as well, with SonicFox praising his ability to skip neutral gameplay, great meterless combos and pressure, and strong normal attacks.
Initially, Havik, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion were placed at the bottom of A tier but after further examination, SonicFox bumped them all up to A+, conveying confidence in the entire roster's viability.
On the other hand, previous patches and nerfs to Cyrax and others knocked down both SonicFox's longtime main Rain and Baraka considerably on the list, while they evaluated Smoke as being one of the better fighters.
It remains to be seen how Mortal Kombat 1's meta and character strengths stack up over time, but SonicFox believes the game is off to a promising start balance-wise based on their early tier list analysis. We can expect more tier lists and breakdowns to come from the renowned MK expert as the scene continues developing.
