Various ways to cancel recovery
The game continues to surprise us with its depth and variety of available techniques. One of the recent discoveries in MK1 was made by Cornered Curator — “Fighting Game Lab Rat”, as stated in the Twitter account description. It’s a canceling mechanic, similar to classic tag-team games, such as BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle.
The clip has got a lot of attention from the NRS community. SonicFox retweeted it (twice), expressing their excitement.
Some prominent people commented on this clip.
So, what's going on here?
Cornered Curator explains that in one of the replies. It seems like, recovery of some moves in Mortal Kombat 1 can be canceled like in tag-team games:
- Jump cancel on hit into another Special
- Summoning kameo
- Fatal Blow.
A bit earlier, we at DashFight made a comparison of the MK1 kameo fighters features with the assist mechanics in various tag-team fighting games. Now, thanks to the dedicated explorer, we (and the whole community) know much more about the opportunities this technique opens.
May we see that in MK1 Pro Kompetition? It’s quite possible! The league starts on October 20-23 with the event East Coast Throwdown 2023.
Lot of amazing tricks can be learned from pro players — if we are attentive enough to notice them in the fast-paced MK1 esports matches. There are quite a few opportunities for this currently. Have you seen the amazing run of TheMightyUnjust, who won two Mortal Kombat 1 tournaments in just two days?
