GG Strive at Defend The North 2023: It’s Not Your Street Fighter!
It’s always impressive when a player wins an event in their primary game. And it’s also cool when someone reaches Top 2 in their non-primary title.

Fighting games are based on pretty common principles, so learning one of the titles means you are prepared for the others. We could experience this even at the level of casual players. And certainly, esports pros have this flexibility too — they often successfully compete in a few games.

Migration to new titles usually happens after new releases and when it becomes obvious that a fighting title is dead already. For example, some of DBFZ players are reach the top level in Street Fighter 6 (Kayne wins Brussels Challenge, LegendaryyPred is 5th at DTN 2023). Or SFV players started exploring new horizons after the release of Guilty Gear Strive.

iDom is another proof of this flexibility and inter-game migration. He is most known as a Street Fighter V player. But he also performs well in other titles — Guilty Gear Strive is one of them. IDom participated in the GG Strive tournament at Defend The North 2023 and reached a very high position.

At the same time, being focused on one game might bring very positive results. For instance, TempestNYC has experience in other titles (such as Granblue Fantasy: Versus or BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle), but his main game is obviously GG Strive. And he was an ultimate opponent for iDom at DTN 2023.

TempestNYC played against iDom in the Winners Semi-Final first, and it was a very close fight. Only in the very last round, TempestNYC claimed the victory.

In the Winners Final, TempestNYC got a pretty confident victory over K7 Showoff.

After falling into the Losers Side, iDom enjoyed three clear victories — and eventually proceeded to the Grand Final too.

For the Grand Final, TempestNYC switched to Ramlethal — and perhaps, this was a good choice for fighting iDom’s Testament. After losing every round in two games, iDom switched to I-No. He won one round then but still lost the game and the match.

TempestNYC is the Guilty Gear Strive Champion at Defend The North 2023. Congratulations!

For TempestNYC it’s the second big victory in a relatively short period. He also is the GG Strive Champion at Combo Breaker 2023.

As for other Guilty Gear Strive tournaments, it is certainly interesting to follow the events of the Arc World Tour 2023. In the same weekend with DTN, we had matches of Brussels Challenge. And the next AWT tournament is Evo 2023, on August 4-6. We at DashFight will be covering it, so — stay tuned!
