Zafina is a Middle-Eastern woman of incredible spiritual prowess. She was born into a tribe of warriors whose roots date back to immemorial, and she was brought up in accordance with their traditions.
Her deep connection with the spirits and her training made her a perfect guardian for the tomb where the ancient evil, Azazel, was sealed off. But as time went by, more and more people became interested in this place, and she started seeing dark omens and premonitions during her usual day job posing as an astrologian.
After seeking advice from the tribe’s guru, she learned of an ancient prophecy that said that two evil stars would be the reason for the awakening of this ancient horror. Much to her shock, when she investigated the tomb, it turned out that Azazel had already awakened.
She sought outside help and advice in dealing with the situation and had contacts with Lars Alexandersson, Jin Kazama, and Nina Williams. The meeting with the latter pair was especially unsettling because they spoke as if they already knew about Azazel's existence.
Ultimately, the ancient beast was slain by Lars and Jin, but not completely. Azazel’s spirit form remained, so Zafina had to seal him inside her own body. But lately, the seal has started to deteriorate, and she struggles to keep him contained more and more. She sought the help of Claudio Serafino and the Order of the Sirius. He, with Ling Xiaoyu’s help, tended to her and temporarily strengthened the seal, but all three of them would need to think of a way of dealing with it before the seal is completely broken.
Zafina is a refined woman who values taking her time to assess the situation before acting. She’s wise and calculating, never making rash decisions, and does not hesitate to seek help when the situation asks for it. She’s fiercely loyal to her friends and her people, but she realizes that if she fails in her mission to prevent the disaster of Azazel’s true awakening, the entire world may be at stake.
Zafina is a very fast and pressure-heavy character with what might be the best sidestep in the game. Her tools allow her to create space and force the opponents into unfavorable situations which she can promptly capitalize on. When the game isn’t on her terms, however, she could struggle with punishment somewhat, and her stances could be complicated to fully master.
Zafina is a practitioner of an Ancient Assassination Arts style. The origins of it aren’t known, but a lot of her moves require extreme flexibility. Some of her stances resemble specific moves from real life martial arts and even dances, but no inspirations were clearly confirmed by the developers as of now.
