No one was expecting this roster
Zeta Division who took over the spot of Shinobism in Street Fighter League Japan, have released their lineup ahead of the 2025 season, and it was a shocker for everyone.
The team will be:
- Higuchi
- Hikaru
- Kakeru
- Yamaguchi
- Momochi
- Chocoblanka
Considering there are only 4 spots in Street Fighter League, speculation is rife as to what role Momochi will take, whether he will take on the role of a team coach, or some other role within the team.
The announcement was made in a very stylish video posted on both YouTube and X. In the video, Momochi, Choco, and Yamaguchi sent out invitations to the other players to join the squad. The reveal of Kakeru was shocking to say the least, considering it was only recently that both Cosa and Sasamo left IBUSHIGIN and the thinking then was whether there was space being made for stronger players along with Kakeru.
With Capcom's announcement that the winners of Street Fighter League Championship will all gain spots in the next Capcom Cup, the composition of teams will now matter a lot more as has already been seen in the transfer of Moke from VARREL to FAV Gaming.
In a statement on their official website, Zeta Division said: "[We are] pleased to announce that six new members, Momochi, Sho, Higuchi, Hikaru, Yamaguchi, and ChocoBlanka, have joined the team as members of the STREET FIGHTER division."
There have been short announcements made by Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto regarding Higuchi's transfer and from IBUSHIGIN regarding Kakeru's move. As for Hikaru, his former team, EVA:e, they announced that they will be disbanding.
This is something of a reunion for Momochi and Higuchi as the latter started out in Shinobism Gaming and was even on their squad for a few SFL seasons before making the move to Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto. Hikaru was also formerly of IBUSHIGIN before making the move to EVA:e and now he is reunited with Kakeru who was also of with the Fukushima team. Kakeru, the recent winner of Capcom Cup, was a surprise pick as there was no indication of a move from IBUSHIGIN, but with a place in Capcom Cup on the line and the glory of an even larger Street Fighter League, it perhaps shouldn't have been that surprising.
IBUSHIGIN have also announced that they will be having a roster reveal in the middle of April and it'll be interesting to see how they replace Kakeru.
Street Fighter League Japan will resume at some point around summer. More details will be made available at a later date.
