Tachikawa To Coach Tokido for Capcom Cup, Joins DFM for SFL League

Tachikawa will have a LOT of work to do over the next several months

Tachikawa, a Street Fighter and DBFZ player from Japan, has been snapped up by Tokido as a personal coach leading up to Capcom Cup X and he will also take on a coaching role for Detonation FocusMe in Street Fighter League Japan stage 2.

Tachikawa, while talented, isn't known for winning several Street Fighter tournaments, but he is an excellent coach and sparring partner which has led him to create something of a niche for himself within the Japanese scene.

Burning Core, the team Tachikawa represents, put out a statement on their website announcing that Tachikawa will be taking Tokido, who won the third World Warrior Tournament in Japan, to Capcom Cup. He will also be joining Team Detonation FocusMe in Street Fighter League as a coach to help them get to the playoffs of the second stage.

In a statement from Tachikawa himself, he clarified that his aims are to ensure that DFM reach the playoff stage and Tokido succeeds at Capcom Cup. This will be a tall order as Tokido isn't yet qualified for the tournament. Tokido missed out on the last Capcom Cup after he was unable to win the Japanese online premier, the World Warrior regional final, and was knocked out in the last chance qualifier which was won by Zhen.

Tokido this time around came close at Evo 2023, making it into the top 6, but was ultimately knocked out by MenaRD. He does have a couple of chances including the Japan online Premier, the World Warrior series and the two other offline events in Singapore and France to make it into Capcom Cup.

With the help of Tachikawa, whom he has contracted till February 2024, he might be able to push himself just that one step further.

Meanwhile, Tachikawa will look to help DFM who barely made it into the second stage of SFL Japan and needed a dramatic final day push to make it at the expense of Good 8 Squad. Tachikawa, who was the coach of G8S, was also their best player, but unfortunately was unable to help them move into the second stage. He will now be joining Fuudo, John Takeuchi, Nauman, and Itabashi Zangief to see if they can create something memorable.

Considering the other teams in SFL Japan (FAV Gaming, Cyclops, Gyogun, Saishunkan Sol, and Shinobism), Tachikawa does have his work cut out for him.

Street Fighter League Japan will resume on the 10th of October 2023
