Evo Japan 2026 Breaks Record as Street Fighter 6 Hits Registration Cap
The growth of SF6 needs to be studied

Evolution Championship Series Japan (Evo Japan) is fast approaching, and it has already made history.

The tournament has officially reached its registration cap for Street Fighter 6, confirming it as the largest fighting game tournament of all time.

Street Fighter 6 Reaches 7,158 Player Limit

Earlier, Evo Japan announced a hard cap of 7,158 participants for Street Fighter 6. As of now, that limit has been fully reached, and organizers have confirmed that registrations for the title are now closed.

However, registration for other games remains open, with organizers extending the deadline to March 23 to accommodate late entrants.

With 7,158 players, Street Fighter 6 at Evo Japan surpasses the previous record of 7,083 entrants, set at Evolution Championship Series 2023 during the game’s debut year. This number also blows out every other game in an incredible way. According to unofficial numbers, the closest game in terms of registrations is Tekken 8 with 833 registrants which is a far cry from the 7000+ signed up for Capcom's top fighting game.

This milestone is particularly notable given the typical trend in fighting games, where player numbers tend to decline over time. In contrast, Street Fighter 6 continues to see growing participation, signaling sustained interest in its competitive scene.

Event Dates Confirmed

Evo Japan 2026 is scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 3, 2026.

With record-breaking numbers already confirmed, the event is shaping up to be one of the most significant tournaments in fighting game history.
