Sycom Sign 13-Year-Old Prodigy Seichi to Youth Roster
It feels like an arms race for youngsters

Sycom, a Japanese PC company that recently opened a Street Fighter 6 esports division and signed a four-man roster, has now announced the signing of one of Japan’s most exciting young prospects to its youth team.

Sycom confirmed the signing of Seichi, a 13-year-old Elena player who currently holds 2213 MR in the latest Phase 10. He is currently the highest-ranked Elena player in the world and sits 67th on the global MR leaderboard.

Seichi has not yet competed in any major tournaments, which makes him something of an unknown. However, following the exploits of Hinao for REJECT at the final Capcom Pro Tour event and a strong run at the Capcom Cup, it would not be surprising to see more young players begin to appear at major tournaments.

Sycom’s Announcement

Clearly excited about the acquisition, Sycom shared the news on social media:

“We are pleased to announce that Seichi (@Seichi_p_q) has joined the "STREET FIGHTER Division Youth"! We are thrilled to take this new step forward as a team alongside this young talent.

"We will unite as a team to fully support their daily efforts toward future breakthroughs. We kindly ask for your warm support and encouragement for Seichi's upcoming challenges and growth!”

Seichi also responded to the announcement, expressing gratitude for the opportunity. He noted that his age limits the number of tournaments he can currently enter, but stated that he intends to compete in any event available to him.

Importantly, he will be eligible for tournaments such as Evo Japan, which allows players as young as 13 to participate, provided they have reached that age by the time of the event.

What Comes Next for Sycom

In addition, Sycom announced that it has applied to join the Street Fighter League as a team, potentially filling the spot left open by CAG Osaka, who recently disbanded.

If the application is successful, however, Seichi will not be eligible to compete in the league. While the minimum age requirement has been lowered, it still stands at 15, meaning he will have to wait before making an appearance in SFL.
