Capcom Sends Legal Warning Over Images of Street Fighter 6 Hitboxes
Took their boxes and went home.

While Street Fighter 6 made great strides in improving the practice mode, and featured most things that you'd want to see as a competitive player, it's still behind Skullgirls and Killer Instinct when it comes to displaying hitboxes.

Anyone who wanted to see those had to install mods or visit a website, with Ultimate Frame Data being one of them, until recently.

The person running the website has shared the legal notice sent to him by Capcom. In no uncertain terms, they present a surprisingly vague issue.

It's not hitboxes themselves, but rather the suspicion that this data was gained through methods that they do not "authorize."

The legal claim here seems dubious to put it lightly. The premise that there's anything illegal about modding your game and sharing images of the hitboxes is absurd.

That said, challenging these claims is often disproportionalely difficult from a financial standpoint, so it's understandable that UFD would rather simply remove the data from the website.

People should keep these situations in mind when it comes to anthropomorphizing companies. There are individual developers with a passion for games and connection to fans, but Capcom as a company is not your friend.

It's a faceless corporation that only sees you as money to be gained or lost. When it's the former, they will try to butter you up and make a sale, but if it's the latter, they won't hesitate to leverage every advantage to crush you.
