The penultimate week of action was exciting, here are the teams that played today:
- Bandits vs. FlyQuest
- Shopify Rebellion vs. Fighting Spirit
- Cloud9 vs. Red Rooster
With Red Rooster out of thhe running for a playoff spot, the duel for a fourth place finish is now firmly between Shopify Rebellion and Bandits. Bandits got to go first against FlyQuest who are sitting comfortably at the top of the table knowing that if they could get a win against the top team, they would go a long way in ensuring they make playoffs. Unfortunately, FlyQuest have been more than ready for any comers with Psycho winning the first match against Zhen. While Luiman was able to defeat ChrisCCH, it all came down to Punk vs MenaRD.
Punk has been in phenomenal form all season long, dropping only one game— to Mena.
So the runback was needed and Punk showed that he was the stronger player on the day with a dominant 3-0 win against Mena's Zangief. This meant Bandits took only 10 points which was not great for them.
On the other side of things, Shopify Rebellion were also tasked with defeating the second-placed team on the table at the time, Fighting Spirit, who they had already lost to. Shopify, showing great skill and hunger, absolutely mauled Fighting Spirit, defeating them 40-0 with wins for NuckleDu, HotDog29, and Dual Kevin, who has been the one carrying the team largely.
This took Shopify to 170, just 20 behind Bandits, and with a week 10 match against bottom-placed Red Rooster, they would hope to be able to produce another 40-0 to really tip the scales. Meanwhile, Bandits will need to face Fighting Spirit, who smarting from their defeat will definitely put up a real game. That said, Red Rooster could still prove to be spoilers, as this was exactly what they did to Cloud9 who have been flying high so far.
JB and Lexx took the first two games leaving the very strong Booce in the anchor spot against Ajax Fidelity. However, if anyone thought that Red Rooster would go down without a fight, they were wrong as Ajax really showed why he is one of the best talents in North America. Booce did seem to be a tad overconfident and this just led to his downfall as Ajax was able to clutch the set 2-3. Worse still, he was against clutch in the tie-breaker where he faced Lexx and got the win again.
This was a huge win for Red Rooster and while it did nothing to help their position, it did ensure that FlyQuest will probably end the season on top of the table.
