Long-time captain and leader, Nemo will not be partaking in the league this season and will act as a coach instead
Japanese team, Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto, has released its Street Fighter League Japan roster, and there’s a twist— Nemo will not be playing this season.
Nemo has served as team captain for years and has always ably led the team through various seasons, but, in a livestream where the players were revealed, Nemo explained that his involvement with Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, will not enable him to commit himself as he would like to Street Fighter. Therefore, the decision has been made that he will serve as the team’s coach this time around.
In his place, Kincho, on loan from Scarz, has been drafted to the team. Therefore, the team looks like this:
- Cosa
- Machabo
- Kobayan
- Kincho
Cosa will take over captain duties from Nemo.
In a statement on X, which has been translated, Nemo explained his decision:
“I have been participating in the Street Fighter League continuously for 8 years since 2018.
“Since 2021, when the system shifted from the player leader system to the team owner system, I have been affiliated with Saishunkan SOL Kumamoto, tackling the league each year with the goal of winning the championship. However, starting last year, I began challenging myself with multiple titles including "Fatal Fury: King of Fighters," and while competing in the league, I strongly felt the difficulty of playing multiple titles simultaneously.
“The tournament schedules for each title are not something I can adjust on my own, and there is a risk of entering the main event without securing sufficient practice time. If I cannot fully contribute to the team in such a state, I feel it would be inexcusable, so I have decided to forgo participation in the league as a player going forward and prioritize individual tournaments instead.
“I have entrusted the leadership of Saishunkan SOL Kumamoto to cosa, and as for myself, I will support the team as a coach while aiming for Saishunkan SOL Kumamoto's championship.
“I look forward to your continued support.”
Adding Kincho is a deft move that should elevate SSK as he is a player that has gotten more attention in recent times with some stunning results including a win at the first World Warrior for Japan. Kincho uses Terry and is meticulous in his actions.
SSK endured a torrid season last time around, finishing at the bottom of Division S. They will hope that with Kobayan’s form, and the fresh blood from Kincho, they can do much better in the upcoming season.
