Nintendo Tournament Application: Only One Smash Game Is Missing
Another wave of the community’s despair is over

It’s pretty weird to see game developers kind of fighting their community, but that actually happens between Nintendo and the competitive Smash people. The most recent drama started with the publishing of new Community Tournament Guidelines. Those rules caused serious concerns about the future of Smash esports.

Still, the actual Licensed Tournament Application turned out to be less harsh — specifically because most Smash games are here.

What surprised the community the most is that Melee has also been included in the list.

The only game that is not there is Smash 4, which is… not as bad as it could be.

It is still unclear how Nintendo is going to handle the online dimension of Smash Melee. Their fight against ports and unlicensed software continues. (Which makes more sense than attempts to cease the competitive activities around their games).

The Smash community is quite dedicated to their favorite series. SSBU is present at many esports events — for example, at Blink Respawn

Some alternatives in the platform-fighter sub-genre are also here. Hungrybox organized The Slime Box a few days ago, a pretty big tournament for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2. With some official support from the developers, this game can become a serious threat.
