Europe's most innovative fighting game tournament confirms its eighth edition with a lineup spanning nine titles
France's premier fighting game tournament, Ultimate Fighting Arena (UFA), has been confirmed to return in 2026 for its eighth installment.
The announcement came via a short video featuring series creator Abou, who opened the video by admitting he had considered not running the tournament this year while on a phonecall with anoter person not shown. In the video, he turns on the TV and is surprised by a montage of the event's most memorable moments, after which Abou makes another call and declares that UFA is coming back.
The tournament will feature between eight and nine games on the main stage, with the following titles confirmed:
- Street Fighter 6
- Tekken 8
- Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves
- Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
- Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game
- 2XKO
- Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising
- Guilty Gear: STRIVE
Super Smash Bros Ultimate was also listed but it is unclear if it will actually be playable at the tournament. Beyond the main lineup, seven additional fighting games will feature as side events, making this one of the most expansive rosters of titles UFA has ever assembled.
UFA's Legacy
UFA started out in 2017 as part of the Capcom Pro Tour and grew to become a staple of the European FGC. Following the pandemic, it returned in 2022 in good form and it was the tournament through which EndingWalker got his breakthrough in Street Fighter.
What has always set UFA apart, however, is its willingness to do things other tournaments will not. It was the first major to adopt PCs as its hardware of choice over PS5s, something that had long been considered as extermely difficult to do. UFA also pioneered running first to three formats throughout the bracket, a move that was widely welcomed by players who had been crying out for tournaments that would implement such, and helped establish the tournament's reputation for putting competitor experience first.
There had been some discussion in the community about whether the arrival of Evo France might reduce the need for UFA on the calendar. The confirmation that UFA is pressing ahead in 2026 suggests that conversation may have been premature. Two major French tournaments serving the European scene is a development the FGC should welcome rather than question.
Ultimate Fighting Arena 2026 will run from the 11th to the 13th of September.
