Alan Sun, better known by his gamer tag Nephew, emerged as the winner of The MIXUP 2025 for Street Fighter 6.
Nephew defeated Problem X in the grand finals to claim the sole qualifying spot for the Esports World Cup (EWC).
He was one of the few American players who traveled overseas for the tournament, with other notable names like Chris G failing to make the trip. Nephew’s strong showing included impressive wins over EndingWalker and several other top competitors.
With this victory, Nephew becomes the 33rd player to qualify for the EWC and will now set his sights on a share of the tournament’s $1 million prize pool.
While the tournament was praised for its unique format—which featured first-to-three matches from start to finish—it was not without controversy. A major point of contention involved several European players who had intended to compete in a World Warrior event but were deemed ineligible because they were outside their home countries.
Pro player Takamura voiced his frustration, stating that he was supposed to participate in the World Warrior event for Belgium, Italy, and the Netherlands, but was disqualified because he was physically in France. He argued that forcing players to choose between two important events for the same game was unfair.
Capcom has yet to respond to the situation, and it remains unclear whether a resolution will be offered.
With The MIXUP now concluded, only four qualification tournaments remain: BLINK Respawn, EVO 2025, GCC, and the Last Chance Qualifier. Players still hoping to make it to the EWC will have to fight for their place in what is shaping up to be the most lucrative tournament in Street Fighter history.
