MenaRD made his Street Fighter League Japan debut as the season got off to an electric start yesterday. MenaRD, who joined ZETA DIVISION for this season’s SFL, played in his first match when his team came up against Crazy Raccoon in their season opener.
ZETA DIVISION put out a statement of intent with a resounding 40-0 win over Crazy Raccoon, with Yamaguchi, Higuchi, and MenaRD all winning their matches to secure a comprehensive win.
Crazy Raccoon put Bonchan against Mena in the anchor spot after Yamaguchi and Higuchi had both won the vanguard and middle matches, respectively. Bonchan, who typically uses Sagat, went for an Akuma pick in the hopes of countering Mena’s Blanka, which can be shut down by Akuma, as was shown most recently in a match against NL.
However, for Mena, who is quite used to fighting against Akuma, it was not enough.
ZETA DIVISION’s win puts them at the top of the table after Day 1, and with the strength of the team, it is widely believed that they will win their league with some ease. However, it’s only the first day, so who knows what could happen.
In the other games of the day, IBUSHIGIN faced off against FAV Gaming, with the latter running out as 20-30 winners following a tiebreaker match, which Sako won against Johnny.
In the second match of the day, Saishunkan Sol Kumamoto, without their captain, Nemo, who withdrew from the tournament to focus on Fatal Fury, were able to get a win over Hiroshima iXA 30-10.
The action is well and truly underway, and next time, League F will begin their campaign on Friday, with many exciting matches, including the debut of Tokido for VARREL and the newly improved REJECT team with Hinao and YAS.
