Capcom Reveals Ingrid Will Not Be Coming With Season 4 Of SF6
No balance patch, no new season announcement, and the end of World Tour updates, the community is waiting for clarity

Ingrid, the final character for season 3 of Street Fighter 6, has finally arrived. However, her release has been followed by some unexpected news.

Ingrid had already been announced to arrive alongside new outfit 3s for season 3 characters, a new costume line called DriveTech Wear in two colour variants, and new game modes, including random avatar matches and arcade mode for avatars. But in breaking with tradition, season 4 of the game has not been announced alongside Ingrid's arrival.

This is a departure from the norm, which usually saw the final character of the previous season serve as the herald of the new one. This has not been the case with Ingrid, which also means that no balance patch accompanied the character's release.

Capcom addressed this in a post stating that a patch affecting every character in the game is planned, but that it will come later. The post reads:

"This battle update consists solely of system adjustments related to throw interactions and bug fixes.

"We are currently working on battle balance adjustments for all characters and will make an announcement as soon as the release timing is confirmed, so we appreciate your patience and please stay tuned for more information."

The response has been one of disappointment among fans who had hoped for more substantial changes. Adding to the frustration is that the only fixes implemented centred around throws, a long-standing sticking point for the community. Throw loops have been unpopular since the game's release and with each patch there has been hope that the issue would be addressed more decisively. That hope remains unfulfilled.

What's Up With World Tour in Street Fighter 6?

Alongside the absence of a balance patch and season 4 announcement came further unexpected news. Ingrid's story content within World Tour mode will be the final update that mode receives. World Tour is the game's single-player story mode, set across Metro City, where players can enrol as students under playable characters and explore the lore of the roster in greater depth. The news that it will no longer receive expansions is disappointing, though the wording of Capcom's announcement has left some hope that updates will simply no longer be tied to character releases rather than being discontinued altogether.

Capcom explained the situation as follows:

"Please note that Ingrid will be the final character to receive additional World Tour story content upon release. Previously added World Tour content will remain playable."

What Does The Future Hold For Street Fighter 6?

While the patch has taken fans by surprise, there is confidence that more information will clarify the situation. A key reference point is the upcoming Summer Games Fest, which takes place on the 5th of June and has traditionally been the occasion on which Capcom announces new characters for the incoming season of Street Fighter 6.

With no season 4 reveal yet, fans retain hope that more information will emerge at SGF. There is even speculation that an entirely new version of the game could be on the cards. Street Fighter V had both Arcade Edition and Champion Edition before it, and there is growing discussion that a Super Street Fighter 6 may be the next step for the franchise.

Only time will tell. For now, fans will simply enjoy Ingrid and all the whimsical charm she brings.
