Capcom Cup IX Will Finally Feature PCs
It seems Capcom has seen the light and this only increases excitement for the tournament next month

Capcom Cup IX will take place in February 2023, and there is already a lot of excitement surrounding the tournament. This excitement has now been cranked up all the way to 1000 with the announcement that the tournament will be making use of PCs as the primary mode of playing.

This was announced on the Capcom Fighters Twitter account where they said that both Capcom Cup and the Last Chance Qualifiers (LCQs) will make use of PCs with 144hz display.

This is great news, as one of the more recent controversies around the FGC has been the perceived anachronism of tournament organizers regarding the hardware in use. For the longest time, PS4 was the console of choice for tournaments, but many have argued that at the highest levels, this would not do as PS4 comes with input lag which can lead to dropped combos and slower reactions. It can feel very unfair when your reactions and inputs are the difference between you and a huge prize pot.

However, for many tournament organizers, making use of PCs is difficult, expensive, and tricky. PS4s are a lot cheaper to procure and easier to set-up. This all changed after Defend the North became the first major tournament to feature PCs, and it went as well as anyone could hope. On the continent, UFA also made use of PCs and were rewarded with a great tournament which came with a lot of attention and praise.

One of the biggest questions in the aftermath of those tournaments was if the use of PCs would become more common, especially in the top tournaments like Evo and Capcom Cup. From this announcement, it would seem as if this is the case, and this can only be seen as a good thing.

The community was overwhelmingly pleased with this announcement, with many taking to Twitter to express their excitement at this news.

The push for PC usage in tournaments was spearheaded by Arturo Sanchez, who has long been of the opinion that using PCs is the future.

It will be interesting to see if other huge tournaments like Combo Breaker, CEO, and Evo also follow suit.

Capcom Cup IX will run from February 14- 19, 2023
