Capcom Announces Insane $2 million Prize Pool For CPT 2023

Earlier, it was announced that there would be no news regarding Street Fighter 6 at Capcom Cup. While there was disappointment, Capcom did announce that they had something special to tell people regarding Capcom Pro Tour 2023. 

It was revealed by a Capcom representative in a much-appreciated announcement that Capcom Cup X was going to be played. More than that, it was also revealed that the next season of Capcom Pro Tour would feature the largest prize pool the game has ever seen, $2 million. 

It was also announced that the winner of Capcom Cup X would walk away with $1 million, which drew shocked gasps from all those who heard it. 

On top of that, Capcom Pro Tour 2023 will feature all the hallmarks that made the last season such a success, including the World Warrior Programme and online and offline events. 

The World Warrior Programme, in particular, was a great innovation as it introduced us to several players we would not have heard about otherwise, including finalist Zhen and some other characters like Kalmal09, Myrken, and so on. 

The reaction to this has been widespread as many people not even in the Street Fighter scene, are considering picking the game to have a chance at the prize money. 

The CPT will be played exclusively on Street Fighter 6 and has been announced to be starting in the Summer of 2023. 

The potential of this announcement cannot be overstated as it suddenly takes the professional side of Street Fighter to a whole new level. It will be interesting to see if other fighting game developers go the same route. It will also be great to see if Capcom will be able to maintain this level of support for the game past its first year.
