Johnny Cage's Variations

Johnny Cage suffers from low damage krushing blows; his variation move Throwing Shades (UD2), can help alleviate this but only when he is in low health. Although it is easier said than done, it's essential to KO Jonny Cage quickly and not let him stay around in low health; the shades serve as a potential comeback with their Krushing blow.

Pissed Off (DBF1) is another problematic variation move, as it allows JC players to punish you for early breakaways. The best way to counter that is to make the read on whether your opponent is fishing for you to break away. You will eat up a bit more damage as you wait to see if they are going for pissed off, but that is a price worth paying to avoid losing a defensive bar and still taking a lot of damage.

Finally, Rising Star (DB3) is a great tool for Johnny Cage, being gapless and allowing him to reset neutral on block. Strategy-wise, Rising Star leaves JC in a worse position, as it costs him resources to execute it, giving you an advantage on the macro, but it's on you to make the most of it.
