His life started with a nasty betrayal — and then, unconsciously, Rain repeats this behavior pattern again and again.
As a kid, Rain was sold to a stepfamily by his own father. Perhaps, the fact that this was god Arguse, a divine protector of the whole realm of Edenia, may become a vague excuse. Gods are not necessarily good at the family business. Rain’s mother, a simple woman Amara, died of despair, and many years later, Rain swore to avenge her. But in fact, the guy himself wasn’t the most honest and loyal person ever.
His personality is poisoned by arrogance and hunger for power. Rain was raised among protectors of Edenia, but when he felt an appropriate moment, he betrayed his comrades to the Outworld forces. The evil Emperor Shao Kahn noticed such a step and gave Rain impressive opportunities within his army.
Being a traitor of his own realm does not bother Rain — as long as the might is on his side. Developing astonishing magical powers only supports his general attitude. Everyone is in a way inferior to such a talented sorcerer.
Outworld helps Rain unleash his skills. In the Imperial Academy of Sorcery, this guy has easily mastered water magic. But Rain does not stop here! He steps beyond the sorcery of elements to absorb some dark and rather dangerous secrets. What’s on his mind? Even more power?
The mystery of his true family was revealed by Quan Chi, an evil sorcerer. Discovering being a god’s son only boosted Rain’s arrogance. From that moment, he refers to himself as an Edenian prince.
At the same time, his feelings for Arguse are not getting warmer at all. Rain hates his father and half-siblings, Taven and Daegon. Nope, he doesn’t desire to follow their path of Edenia’s protectors. Power is more important!
During many missions in Shao Kahn’s army, Rain meets other Edenians, Kitana and Jade. Together they participate in the Mortal Kombat tournament to fight Earthrealm warriors. At some points, there is a spark of a warm relationship between Rain and Kitana — but soon, it disappears. That was another tricky move by the guy to abuse the princess’ position for his own benefit. How many betrayals will Rain commit?
The reset timeline of MK1 might be a good chance for the character to reconsider his questionable decisions.
The guy is just cunning. He knows what he wants, and he is ready to commit awful things to achieve his goals. Arrogance is a key feature of Rain’s personality. He is the Prince of Edenia, a great sorcerer — everyone is totally inferior to Rain.
The developers have changed Rain a lot for MK1. From a quick ninja, he made it to being a High Mage and having a staff as his weapon. Rain controls water to create powerful projectiles, defensive balls, or even portals for quick teleportation around the stage. Zoning tools are strong with this character, but he also has pretty decent normals — like a kick that pushes the victim out of the screen, making them appear on the other side.
Rain follows the tradition of Mortal Kombat characters to hide their faces behind a mask. His general appearance is a mix of the sorcerer style and ninja-like outfits and expressions.
