Johnny Cage is an actor who found himself as part of Earthrealm’s warriors in Mortal Kombat. Believing it to be another movie set, he sets out to win it all defeating the enemies he came up against thinking them to be actors and not real. Therefore, he did not notice any of the danger he was in until things get hairy after defeating Baraka and being asked by Shang Tsung to kill him. He refuses to do so and this is the cue Liu Kang and Raiden need to talk to him about joining the side of good.
It is also while here that he meets Sonya Blade and is smitten by the Special Forces operative. Unfortunately, due to his crass nature, she doesn’t take him seriously, not until she is attacked by Kano. He manages to defeat Kano and saves Sonya getting the stuck up operative to soften a bit.
He finally joins Liu Kang and Raiden in their attempt to defeat Shao Kahn and win the tournament.
In Mortal Kombat X, he joins forces with Sonya, Kenshi, and the rest of the Special Forces to fight the elder god Shinnok. He is able to be instrumental in the sealing of Shinnok which gains him even more brownie points with Sonya. He joins her again to fight Quan Chi and is beaten up with his revenant form starting to take shape before being stopped by Raiden who saves him ensuring he lives to fight another day.
He marries Sonya and the two have a child they name Cassie. However, the marriage fails after Sonya prioritizes her work over family and Johnny is left with his daughter.
He will eventually form a Special Forces team with his daughter, Cassie, Jax’s daughter, Jacqui, Kenshi’s son, Takeda, and Kung Lao’s younger cousin, Kung Jin.
Up against Shinnok once again, he is able to make it out alive, reconciling with his estranged ex-wife in the process, and forming a family once more.
The end of Mortal Kombat 11 sees Johnny come to terms with his annoying younger self, his wife’s death, and getting shot in the knee by Erron Black. As for the younger Sonya, Cassie and his younger self, they all get captured by Shao Kahn.
In Liu Kang’s new world, it remains to be seen what has become of Johnny.
Johnny is a brash and arrogant character who lives for his fame and career. He is aggressive, but highly skilled as a fighter. He starts to mellow down as he experiences the hardships of the world of Mortal Kombat. In this we see he has a softer, more mature, and wiser side.
Johnny is a simple man with various appearances. What stays the same however, is the tattoo of his name plastered across his chest and his iconic sunglasses. He sometimes wears wrapping around his arms and other times he can be seen with a metal bracelet. He also wears a belt with a buckle that reads ‘Cage’ and a pair of cargo pants.
