Top Player Nicolas' Character Guide of Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 1

One of the rising stars in Mortal Kombat competitions, Chilean top player Nicolas has made a name for himself over the past few years alongside his brother, as the two of them have continually shown to be top contenders for any Mortal Kombat bracket. Johnny Cage's Gameplay Basics

Best Buttons & Strings

• F1: One of, if not the best Mid in the game for whiff punishing.
  • F1,2,4: Is a launcher.
  • F1,2,3: great push back on block.
• F3: Johhny's most important button is mid with only 9F startup, the fastest in the game. Great for combos & pressure.
  • F3,2: can stagger opponents.
    • F3,2,1: Leaves you at +4.
  • F3,4: another mid launcher, but very risky because of the gap.
• F4: Great safe overhead at -5F, but long startup.
• D1: Good poke all around.
• D4: Good pushback.
• B4: great sweep, 0F on block.
• S1,1: Comes out in 7F and +3F on block.
  • S1,1,4: +7F on block.
  • S1,1,2: can cover the gap in S1,1,4.
• S2,1,4: Great to bait overheads because S2,1,2 can be up-blocked.
• S3,3: not great on its own, but because it's uncommon, it can surprise opponents.

Specials

• BD1: Combo ender and good for pressure. Amplified adds invisibility and can help connect with Kameo. It also has a hype version.
• FDB2: Not used a lot, but the hype version charges up quickly.
• DB3: Is a great way to push combos into the air when amplified.
• DF3: Great escape tool.
• BF4: Fantastic combo ender, and it helps you close the gap to your opponents and whiff punish them. Amplified adds armor, and it has a hype version as well that you can use at the end of rounds to charge a lot.
• FDB4: Charges and activates Hype.
