Registration for the third edition of Japan’s Capcom Pro Tour World Warrior tournament has officially closed, and once again the event has drawn massive participation, surpassing the 1,000-player mark.
World Warrior Japan #3 will take place this weekend as the leaderboard begins to take clearer shape and the battle for Capcom Cup qualification intensifies.
As of writing, the tournament has 1,298 entrants, fewer than both the first and second events. The inaugural tournament exceeded 2,000 participants, while the second crossed 1,500. The drop-off isn’t surprising, though; by now, many players who no longer have a realistic shot at qualification have opted out, leaving behind those still in the hunt, or those simply looking to enjoy the competition.
The first event was won by GO1, while Hibiki claimed victory in the second. Both players hold a strong advantage on the current leaderboard, with Hibiki in first place at 55 points, having picked up five from his performance in the opening tournament. With Japan’s player base being as deep and competitive as it is, maintaining consistency has proven to be a serious challenge, making this weekend’s event one to watch closely.
Beyond the regular leaderboard, there’s still the regional final to fight for. The top eight players will qualify, with the top four starting on the winners’ side of the bracket and the remaining four beginning on the losers’ side.
