"How I am feeling right now is like I was in a committed relationship for 20 years and my significant other decided they wanted to just be friends."
The string of sad news surrounding the latest Tekken patch continues. The official X account of Kanme, a creative studio with a dedicated esports team, announced that Victim of Ritual will be stepping down as the brand ambassador and IP representative.
This came as quite a surprise, but Victim of Ritual soon elaborated on his decision with a detailed post.
Many players have voiced their overt dislike for Season 3, but it would be short-sighted to attribute this response to one bad patch. Victim of Ritual has been a long time Tekken fan, but now he and many others find themselves in a situation where the game is too different from what they initially got into.
It's only natural for series to change over time, but Tekken finds itself in a position where the classics are held hostage on older platforms, and your current choice is to either play Tekken 8 or Tekken 7.
Some other players have also expressed intent to either wind down their involvement with the game or competitive scene, though it's hard to say how many of those statements will end up being impulsive responses to an admittedly terrible patch.
With Street Fighter V serving as a great example, we should all know that it's always possible for a game to make a recovery, but Tekken would need to showcase serious intent to change the course of the game, and commit to a coherent vision for the game's future.
