Top 16 Set at Fatal Fury Esports World Cup as Xiao Hai Exits

Following the second day of competition at the Esports World Cup for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the top 16 players have now been decided.

The biggest storyline of the day was the elimination of Xiao Hai, who entered the tournament alongside GO1 as one of the favorites to reach the final stages. He was first defeated by Greek player K-TOP, dropping into the lower bracket, where he suffered another narrow loss to fellow Chinese player Naiwang, ending his tournament run.

With Xiao Hai eliminated, GO1 now stands as the clear favorite to win the tournament. Having shown signs of recovery following his recent health scare, he should be in a better position to compete closer to his best.

Japan leads all nations with seven of its 11 players advancing to the top 16. Meanwhile, Reynald is the United States' sole remaining representative after NYChrisG was eliminated earlier in the competition.

Competition continues tomorrow with the remaining 16 players split into two groups of eight. Each group will use a double-elimination GSL format, with the top four players from each advancing to the final day.

The final stage will feature a single-elimination bracket, with all matches played as first-to-five (FT5).
