It feels like no other character archetype causes such emotional discussions in the fighting games community. Grapplers are generally super strong, and they use kind of a disrespectful approach. An opponent may try and bring clever techniques to the stage alongside well-elaborated strategy and hard-trained combos. But a grappler… they patiently watch you dancing around them (“what those weak hits can do to my enormous health”), wait for a proper moment, and then grab your character to instantly deliver a lot (and I mean it, a lot!) of damage.
Yep, grapplers sound like pretty cool characters — if you generally like this somewhat straightforward but at the same time very effective style.
It is possible to find grapplers in most (all?) fighting games. Some of those characters are especially prominent, and we’ve added them to our list of the 10 best grapplers across different fighting games. The list turned out to be quite interesting, so we’ve made a video around it.
