Daigo also got a huge win
Tokido has been a very busy man with trips to Abu Dhabi to train and to India to take part in an event and mingle with the Indian fighting game community. Upon his return, he swiftly found himself at Japanese Esports' biggest night— the Japan Esports Awards.
Tokido was nominated in two categories— the best fighting game player of the year and the esports player of the year. Tokido won the latter and was presented with an award for what has been a great year for him which culminated into a ticket to Capcom Cup 11.
Another big winner on the night was Kawano who won the best fighting game player of the year. Kawano still hasn't booked a place at Capcom Cup 11, but he was the highest-placing Japanese player at the Esports World Cup where he took 2nd place and he was part of a strong Street Fighter League team that has reached the Grand Final and has a chance of winning the tournament.
On top of that Daigo, the legendary Street Fighter player, also got a lifetime achievement award for his accomplishments within the fighting game scene including being the very first professional gamer in Japan.
Street Fighter 6 itself was not left out as it was rewarded for its insane popularity in Japan winning both the esports game of the year and the esports tournament of the year for Street Fighter League Japan.
It was a great night all around with Tokido's team, REJECT, also winning the team of the year award. This should push the players to go even further for the next year and surpass their limits.
