Elena, the final DLC character for season 2 of Street Fighter 6, has been revealed to fans with her trailer. The trailer was met with a lot of excitement, and fans will look forward to a gameplay trailer, which is what is expected to follow at a later date.
Also revealed was the release date for Elena which is on the 5th of June and will coincide with the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 which is the most widely anticipated console of the last few years.
However, many were quick to point out a problem with the date for Elena's release, which is also the time when everyone expects that the 2nd season will end and a balance patch leading into the 3rd season will be released. The issue is that Elena's release will be after the official Capcom Pro Tour season has started, which means that players will play the first couple of premieres for Capcom Cup on the 2nd season patch and then subsequent tournaments with the 3rd season patch.
This has been a disappointment to many and a departure from Capcom's practice of fixing the release of the next season at the very end of the CPT season. This way, players could use the off-season to prepare for competitive play on a new patch.
However, this time, both Evo Japan and Combo Breaker, two tournaments that are officially recognized as Capcom Cup qualifiers, will be held before season 3's release, with the first post-patch tournament being CEO, which is on the 13th-15th of June 2025.
Many fans and players wondered why this is the case and how this could affect the competitive landscape.
