Street Fighter' Film & TV Rights Secured By Legendary Pictures
Source: Universal Pictures
The studio will work with Capcom on future adaptations

Today, the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported that Legendary Pictures had acquired the rights to the Street Fighter series from Capcom. The deal includes the rights to the TV adaptation and the film, which will be co-produced with a Japanese publisher.

Other details about future projects or their directors have yet to be reported.

Previously, Street Fighter was already adapted into film format in 1994 by Universal Pictures. The movie, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, failed to impress critics and fans of the franchise, receiving overwhelmingly negative reviews.

We can also recall the existence of the non-canon spin-off Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, released close to the launch of Street Fighter IV, and did not cause a positive reaction from the target audience.
