Street Fighter 6 Was the Most Watched Fighting Game of 2023 By Far
The 2023 release dominated the charts

Stream Charts, a streaming data and analytics measuring company, have released their report for 2023 which covered the streaming numbers in a variety of fields and so on. In their report about fighting games, they talked about the most streamed fighting game personalities, but also released numbers on the most streamed fighting games, and it was here that we saw Street Fighter 6 sitting atop the pile with all the smugness you can muster.

The June 2023 release has been a smash hit and the numbers bear witness to this feat. Street Fighter 6 garnered over 112 million hours of watch time on Twitch...the second best performing game? 32 million and it was Smash Bros Ultimate.

Street Fighter 6's popularity on streaming platforms does seem to have a lot to do with some of the events in Japan which has caused more and more people to tune in and watch the game being played. With the introduction of Street Fighter 6, organizations started to put together events that were a cross between well-known fighting game personalities and mainstream streamers and the numbers were huge. Examples include the Crazy Raccoon Cup and Reject Fight Night.

The games were listed as follows:

  • Street Fighter 6
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Party Animals
  • Mortal Kombat 1
  • Tekken 7
  • Naraka: Bladepoint
  • Brawlhalla
  • Street Fighter V
  • Super Smash Bros. Melee
  • Guilty Gear -STRIVE-

With Tekken 8 set to come out on the 26th of January, it will be interesting to see how well the latest Bandai Namco title does. It is much anticipated and with all the news around the new features including a 'Ghost Mode' where players will be able to play the 'ghost' of another player which is basically an AI controlled character which fights using data collected from that player's matches.

With Tekken 8 coming and Mortal Kombat 1 looking to have more of a stronghold on the player base and the much anticipated release of Project L looming ever closer, the stream charts for the end of 2024 will make for fascinating reading.
